【Tokyo Orientation】
Tokyo Orientation, or Post-Arrival Orientation, is the largest conference JET Programme participants will attend. This three-day conference begins the day after new JET Programme participants arrive in Japan, and is the convergence point of participants coming from their home countries, before they disperse again to their new homes across Japan.
The purpose of the Post-Arrival Orientation in Tokyo is to provide a basic introduction to life on the JET Programme. The orientation is composed of the following:
An introduction to the significance of the JET Programme, presented by Japanese government officials.
An introduction to the JET positions and related conditions in Japan, presented by officials of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), and CLAIR.
Workshops introducing the job skills needed by JETs to fulfill their positions, conducted by re-contracting CIRs, ALTs and SEAs, CLAIR, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
A forum for meeting other JETs from around Japan, and re-contracting JETs representing their Host Prefectures or Designated Cities. JETs can have specific questions about their placement & positions answered by representatives from their Host Prefectures or Designated Cities.
A kind of buffer zone where JETs can make physical (jet lag), mental and cultural adjustments before setting out for their assigned Host Prefectures / Designated Cities and Contracting Organisations.
